THINK OUTSIDE THE GIFT BOX

Acknowledging the people in our lives with holiday gift exchanging is close at hand.  This gesture has sadly taken on an obligatory and thoughtless role for many people, souring what could actually be so joyful and meaningful.  But, it doesn't have to be that way.  Bringing thoughtfulness back into gift giving is quite simple.  It just requires.....well, a little thoughtfulness.  Here, I share with you a creative, DIY way to do so.

Think outside the box..... the gift box, that is.   This idea is especially nice if you happen to enjoy baking batches of confections for giving to co-workers, neighbors, teachers, etc....  Your chocolate chip-caramel-macadamia-coconut-powdered sugar dipped cookies may be the rave of the town, but passing them out in curling ribbon tied cellophane bags with a sticker slapped on top falls a little flat, if you ask me.  Instead, tuck the goodies inside a fabulous and useful little trinket box, all the more appreciated if it's handmade and embellished..... by you.  Including a handwritten note inside the box takes your thoughtfulness to the utmost practice of proper etiquette.

Pictured above are a few types of boxes that lend themselves well to all sorts of crafty techniques, be it decoupage, chalk finish painting, glitter and glue, etc....  I'm sure you have a few lurking around your home, along with baubles, ribbons and such for embellishing them.

I made the one pictured above for a friend a few years ago.  It was the perfect vessel for the jumbo sized brownie I snuck inside of it.  My friend has a 'Hollywood glam' sort of personality, in case you wouldn't have thought.

If you happen to possess neither baking nor crafting skills, nor the time to do this type of thing, don't despair.  Purchase a small amount (if budget is a factor) of the finest quality confections you can afford and put them inside a purchased gift box that reflects your most exquisite taste.  After all, luxuriousness is next to craftiness.  And, most importantly, include that handwritten note.  Proper etiquette is always in fashion; it's perennial.
