Geranium 'Rozanne' performs almost nonstop from late spring through autumn. It's cheery blue-violet flowers blend well with all colors, though I would caution combining it with red; that's an irritating clash for the eyes.
The bronzy metallic blades of Carex testacea deliver a grassy accent almost year round for zone 7-ers. It is a complementary neutral for many applications, and a stately container soloist.
Experiment with these two plants this season; they won't disappoint. And, be sure to look out for abandoned friendly little faces; give them something to smile about.
